Mark Bromley, Architect

Directions Home is about helping friends design responsible, energy efficient houses that feel like home.

Its simple really but its taken over 20 years of practicing architecture to fully come to this point. After 8 years of practice in Ann Arbor Michigan and 12 years as Project Architect at Birdseye Building Company in Richmond Vermont, I'm on my own now.  My overhead is low and my office is small - very small.

I bring the same level of commitment, passion, and attention to detail that I always have. I enjoy creating simplicity and efficiency out of complexity.  I enjoy working closely with clients and enjoy these new friendships as we navigate the decisions that help us to create spaces that reflect their personalities and desires for a home.

My architectural practice with Directions Home is based on a few simple beliefs:
  • All projects, every project,  big and small, deserves good thoughtful design.
  • Architectural design services should be accessible and affordable to everyone.
  • Recognizing that 80 percent of the project costs are committed in the first 20 percent of planning effort, Architectural design should bring value and efficiency to every project.
  • Architects should strive to work with and listen to the people we are serving, acknowledging that clients know their needs better than anyone else.
  • We must mutually respect our environment and take care in the materials we use.
  • The spaces we live in and work in should be modest in scale.
  • The spaces we live in and work in should conserve energy and material resources.
